Poison Prevention Week


March 17th-March 23rd is Poison Prevention Week.  Each year, U.S Poison Center receives more than four million poisoning exposure calls. IPC handles more than 80,000 calls annually. Almost half the children involved are 5 years or younger. For Children 18-36 months, poisoning is the number 1 cause of injury related hospitalization and death. 9 out of 10 poisoning deaths are caused by drugs/ medications.  Below are a few tips of what you should do if you think you or someone has been exposed


·         In the mouth- Do not make the person vomit or give them anything to eat or drink. Immediately call the poison center.

·         On the Skin- Rinse skin well with water. Then wash skin gently with soap and water, then call the poison center

·         In the Eye- Rinse eyes with water for 15 min (remove contacts before rinsing). Open and close eyes while rinsing and then call the poison center

·         In the Air- Leave the area and move to a place where you can breathe fresh air, then call the poison center.
